Lone Buffalo

On both trips to Kruger National Park, we encountered buffalo (Afrikaans name, Buffel) in many different locations and circumstances. Sometimes they travelled alone, sometimes there were just a couple in a herd and it was also quite common to see them in larger herds.

We encountered this massive beast just a few steps from our car, as we rounded a bend on a dirt road on the way to Satara, in the Kruger National Park. We were really nervous because he was so close and from what we had heard about their unpredictable behaviour. When he stopped chewing and stared at us we took off.
