Kapokbos (Eriocephalus africanus), also known as Wild Rosemary is a highly aromatic plant with beautiful white flowers, which cover the entire bush.

The fruits are formed, Soon after flowering, these fruits are covered in long, white hairs. These fluffy seed heads look like cotton wool or snow, which gave it the name kapokbos, in Afrikaans meaning snow bush. Wild birds especially the Cape Canary, love the fluffy fruit for their nests and can often be seen with their beaks full of the fluff.

It is readily eaten by livestock and is known for the distinctive taste given to the Karoo lamb. It is also widely used for its medicinal properties from diuretics to chest colds and coughs.
