Capped Wheatear

The Capped Wheatear (Afrikaans name Hoeveldskaapwagter) is a very striking bird with his black markings, he is a common resident in the Western parts of the region.

Favours open grassland including newly harvested agricultural land. They build their nests below ground in rodent holes.

The Juvenile is all a buff colour lacking the black markings of the Adult. We managed to see these in the Agricultural lands on the Old Malmesbury Road.
