Burchell’s Coucal

The Burchell’s Coucal (Afrikaans name Gewone Vleiloerie and Zulu name umGugwane) is lovingly, known as The Rainbird because of their reputation for predicting impending rain.

It is a common resident in riverine scrub, thicket and well wooded gardens.

It has a wide range of food including small mammals, reptiles, frogs, small birds and eggs. We caught a glimpse of this one in the Kruger National Park
