Water Thick-knee

The Water Thick-knee, also known as a Dikkop or in Afrikaans as a Waterdikkop is a common resident around rivers, lakesides and lagoons. They are normally found in pairs, mainly nocturnal but some activity by day

We saw these Water thick-knees at Intaka Island, they were running around a fair bit but when something flew overhead, they lay down flat in the vegetation hoping not to be seen.

They are quite strange looking birds and as we live quite close to a wetland we see them very often. We hope they will be there for many years longer.
