The Monkey And The Marula

Whilst in the Kruger National Park, we came across this vervet monkey happily tucking into the ripe Marula fruit which had fallen to the floor.

It was so amusing to watch as he was really spoilt for choice and at times couldn’t make up his mind. He would take one bite of a fruit and discard it then pick up another and another until he found the exact one that was sweet enough for him.

Once he found the right one he dug in and demolished it. Marula fruit are very high in vitamin C and they are enjoyed by many other animals too like the Warthog, Elephant, Waterbuck, Giraffe and Kudu.

The enjoyment of that exact sweet fruit was so enjoyable, so much so that he licked his fingers and his toes clean.
