Shrike’s Food Larder

The Common Fiscal (Fiskaallaksman, Afrikaans Name) is a shrike that likes to hang his kill on a thorn or even on the spikes of a barbed wire fence and that is where he earned the local name of “Jackie Hangman”. In this case we found his larder, where he had hung a little field mouse, up on the barbed wire fence, alongside the road.

The Common Fiscal is a common resident found across Southern Africa.
