Malachite Kingfisher

The Malachite Kingfisher is a common resident along fresh waterways, lagoons and streams.

The Afrikaans name for the Malachite Kingfisher is Kuifkopvisvanger.

The shimmer on their feathers is quite exquisite, that almost luminous blue against the orange and buff makes them look like a little flitting gemstone in the wild.

One of my favourites. We have seen them at Intaka, Rietvlei and Kruger National Park
