Klipspringer

Klipspringer look like tiny ballerinas, always walking on the tips of their hooves they are mostly found in rocky locations, we found these three in the Mala Mala Game Reserve. The coarse hairs of their coat were once highly prized and used for stuffing saddles.

The Klipspringer will emit a shrill snort when it senses danger and this will be echoed by the female in a duet. The sound carries up to 700m warning the predator that they have been seen.

Their enemies are leopard, hyena, baboon and large birds of prey.
