Kittlitz’s Plover

The Kittlitz’s Plover (Afrikaans Name, Geelborsstrandkiwiet) a wader, has a distinct black band on its head with a pale yellow chest. It is a common resident and an intra_African migrant, usually found near water. We saw this adult and chick in the West Coast National Park

These birds are monogamous and lay their eggs in a scrape on the ground. When disturbed they will kick sand or debris over the eggs.
