European Roller Caught A Dung Beetle

Whilst in the Kruger National Park we saw this European Roller (Afrikaans name, Europese Troupant) fly down from a tree and grab a Dung beetle out of the road.

He then proceeded to bash the beetle against the branch.

Over and over again, smashing the beetles carapace so that it was easier to eat.

This went on for quite a while until he was satisfied that it was smashed up enough.

Then as quick as a wink he had swallowed it all.
