Blister Beetle

Blister beetles (Afrikaans name Blaartrekkewers) Feed mainly on flowers and nectar.

They are strikingly marked with black, yellow or red as a warning that they contain a powerful drug known as cantharidin, this is what causes blisters on the skin.

We saw these beetles at Lower Sabie in the Kruger National Park
