Blacksmith Plover

The Blacksmith Plover, (Afrikaans name, Bontkiewiet) now renamed as the Blacksmith Lapwing is one of our larger waders, a common resident at most wetlands. This one was spotted on a trip to Strandfontein Settling Pools this weekend. A quick and bouncy little guy that feeds on the edges of the water.

A juvenile, which is more brown, was spotted at Intaka Island in Century City.
