Barn Swallow

The Barn Swallow (Afrikaans name Europese Swael) is an abundant Palearctic migrant to South Africa.

We see swarms of them in Strandfontein and in the West Coast.

The Juvenile is a much paler colour than the adults

They are beautiful birds both in the air or settling on reeds or shrubs.
