Acraea Butterfly

These Clear Wing Acraea butterflies (Acraea acara acara) (Afrikaans name Ridder-rooitjie) are flitting around Kirstenbosch gardens in their hundreds. In the tree tops, in the air and on every kind of flower around.

They seem to have this way of flying that makes them seem to be floating in the air. They are so beautiful and such a pleasure to watch.

We have included some photos of them sitting on various flowers in Kirstenbosch gardens.
